William Grady “W.G.” Capshaw, Jr., 81, Remembered for a Life of Service, Strength, and Family Devotion

Middleton, TN – The community of Middleton is mourning the loss of William Grady “W.G.” Capshaw, Jr., who passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of Friday, July 11, 2025, at the age of 81. Surrounded by loved ones in his final moments, W.G. leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, service, and deep devotion to his family.

Born on February 9, 1944, in Lagrange, Tennessee, W.G. was the son of the late William G. Capshaw, Sr. and Mary Lou Gatewood Capshaw. He was raised in the Rogers Springs community, where he developed the values and work ethic that defined his life. A proud graduate of Middleton High School and Memphis State University, W.G. served his country with honor as a veteran of the United States Army.

W.G. spent over 30 years in Memphis, where he established a successful career in government and commercial vehicle fleet sales and leasing. He also explored his entrepreneurial side, co-owning a restaurant for six years. In 2005, following a disability, W.G. returned home to Middleton to care for his widowed mother—an act that reflected his enduring loyalty and deep family values.

A man of strong faith, W.G. was a devout Baptist and an avid genealogist, passionately tracing his family’s roots back to their arrival in America in 1674. His love for history and heritage offered him a deep connection to the past and brought great joy throughout his later years.

W.G. is survived by his son, Matthew; his grandson, Casey; his brothers, Donald Capshaw (Alayne) and Jeffery Capshaw; his sister, Patricia Cruse (James); and a special friend, Cody Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Tracy.

Those who knew William Grady Capshaw, Jr. will remember him for his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and deep love for his family and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
