KING WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — A tragic Fourth of July crash has claimed the life of Ricardo Jennings, a 42-year-old man from Washington, D.C., leaving his family, friends, and community in deep mourning. The fatal single-vehicle accident occurred on Walkerton Road, just south of Route 30 (King William Road), in King William County, Virginia.
According to the Virginia State Police, Jennings was driving a 2020 Freightliner M2 box truck southbound around 2:15 p.m., when the vehicle unexpectedly left the roadway. In an attempt to regain control, Jennings overcorrected, causing the truck to overturn. Tragically, he was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, dying at the scene.
A 26-year-old passenger from Alexandria, who was wearing a seatbelt, survived the crash and was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. Authorities say the passenger is expected to recover, though his current condition has not been officially released.

Working in transportation and logistics, Ricardo was respected by many for his quiet strength, helpful nature, and unwavering loyalty to family and friends.
“He was the kind of person who showed up for others without being asked,” said one friend. “The world was a better place with Ricardo in it.”

A Call for Safety and Remembrance
Jennings’ passing on what should have been a day of celebration has also renewed calls for seatbelt safety and road awareness. Authorities remind the public that wearing a seatbelt dramatically increases the chances of surviving such accidents.
Funeral arrangements will be shared by the family in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the Jennings family encourages donations to road safety nonprofits or local charities in the D.C. area that Ricardo supported.
