KERRVILLE, TX — Heartbreak continues to ripple through Kerr County as authorities confirmed that a missing local couple has been found deceased following the catastrophic flash floods that struck the area on July 4, 2025. The couple, whose names have not yet been released pending official family notification, were among dozens swept away by the sudden and unprecedented rise of the Guadalupe River.
Triggered by torrential rainfall that dumped up to 12 inches in just a few hours, the river surged more than 22 feet in under two hours, inundating homes, businesses, and summer camps. Officials have now confirmed at least 27 fatalities, including nine children, as search and rescue efforts continue.
The couple had been reported missing shortly after the floodwaters tore through Kerrville and surrounding areas. Despite massive response efforts involving helicopters, rescue boats, drones, and over 500 personnel, the unforgiving current claimed their lives. They were reportedly swept away while attempting to escape the rapidly rising waters.
The flooding has left a trail of devastation throughout the Texas Hill Country, with Camp Mystic, a well-known Christian summer camp along the river, among the hardest-hit locations. Over 20 campers were initially reported missing, adding urgency and emotional weight to the ongoing rescue mission.
As the community mourns, many residents and businesses have stepped in to support displaced families and first responders. Local restaurants and volunteers have provided hot meals, blankets, and temporary shelter, reflecting the unity and resilience of the Kerrville community in the face of unthinkable tragedy.
Authorities continue to urge caution in flood-prone areas and are asking anyone with information about missing persons to contact local emergency services immediately.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the couple and to all those impacted by the July 4 flood. As recovery begins, the spirit of Kerrville remains strong—and its people determined to heal, together.
