Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in Scriba Claims Life of Gerald Burke; Child Passenger Rescued

SCRIBA, NY — On the evening of Friday, July 4, 2025, at approximately 6:26 p.m., the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tragic single-vehicle crash on Lakeview Road in the Town of Scriba.

Preliminary investigations reveal that a 2017 Dodge Durango, driven by 34-year-old Gerald Burke of Oswego, was traveling southbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Durango veered off the eastern side of the road, collided with a tree, and caught fire.

Emergency responders pronounced Gerald Burke deceased at the scene. A child passenger was rescued from the burning vehicle by nearby residents who acted quickly to provide aid. The child sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported for medical care.

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation with support from local emergency services to determine the exact cause of the crash and the circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway.

Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as the inquiry progresses.
